Teorinfo ~ Many say that we should not drink cold water if we want to lose weight. This is because people generally think that hard water causes us to be “fat”.

But is it just a myth or a fact? The human body works with a homeostatic system. Therefore, the body always maintains its state under certain conditions, such as body temperature at around 36.5 degrees, to 37.5 degrees Celsius.

This is why we shiver in cold environments and sweat in the heat. When cold water enters the body, the water temperature will rise according to body temperature over time. Therefore cold water will not make us fat because it is not that easy to change our body temperature.

Fat won’t freeze just because we drink cold water, as people generally believe. In contrast, the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism states that drinking cold water can increase the body’s metabolism.

In addition, water contains zero calories, so that no matter how much water we consume will not make weight gain. Many fitness experts also recommend drinking cold water in the morning to increase metabolism and burn more calories.

However, cold temperatures make digestion take longer when digesting food, so food stays longer in the intestines because it is fermented by the normal bacteria that are there and causes bloating, belching, and abdominal pain.

It is essential to know that one glass of cold water will not increase weight. But long-term consumption of cold drinks will slow down the digestion of food, interfere with metabolism and cause constipation and a distended stomach.

Occasional drinking cold water will not hurt health. On the contrary, it will help burn calories. However, suppose hard water is consumed in the long term. In that case, the risk of digestive disorders such as constipation and bloating can occur.
